Whether or not your office is cleaned on a regular basis, dirt, grime and general clutter is likely to build-up. Keeping your workspace tidy and hygienic is important for your work ethic and professionalism, so it’s important to keep on-top of the state of your office. Even if your workspace is regularly cleaned by cleaning staff, there are some changes and investments you can make to keep your office to a high standard of cleanliness. Here are just a few examples of how you can keep your workspace clean and tidy.

1) Clear-out.
Set aside time for a regular clear-out of your office. You’re likely to build-up a collection of papers, files, stationary and more that you simply don’t need. Take the time to cut out the clutter by having a big sort-out. This will help to keep your workspace looking great, and will also help you to find exactly what you need when you need it.

2) Vacuuming.
Your office hopefully gets a thorough vacuum quite regularly, but sometimes you might want to quickly dispose of mess. Invest in a compact vacuum to store in your office so you can quickly deal with crumbs or spillages. You can even buy miniature vacuums specifically for desk cleaning. This might be a better option for keeping clean on a budget.

3) Air cans.
Purchasing a can of compressed air is a great idea for your office. Compressed air will remove any dirt particles or crumbs that can get lodged in between your computer keys, or even in fans and printers. Not only will this keep your electronic equipment in the best condition, but it can also affect the efficiency of your products. Try to keep a can of compressed air in your desk drawer for such emergencies.

4) Recycling bin.
Most offices now make use of recycling stations, but separating your papers and plastics can still lead to clutter in your office. Why not purchase a waste bin with separate compartments for your different recyclable materials? This will keep your workspace clutter-free, and will save you the endless trips to the recycling stations in your workplace.

5) Shredding.
Shredding is important in an office as it means your documents are fully destroyed and unreadable, but not all people make use of them. Shredding any unwanted paper will cut-down on the mess in your office as well as keep your documents private.

6) Sanitising your belongings.
Did you know your computer keyboard can harvest more bacteria than a toilet seat? Do some research into sanitising products that will be safe to use on your office equipment. This will help to keep sickness and illness at bay.

7) Cleaning staff.
If you feel as though your office isn’t getting the cleaning it needs then try speaking to the cleaning staff. Discuss what their duties actually are and decide how much extra work you want to put in yourself. It could be that your cleaners aren’t doing their job properly, or it could be that they’re doing what they are contractually obligated to do. If the latter is the case then make a weekly plan for any cleaning and tidying you want to do off your own back. This might include cleaning the windows or dusting.
